What is depression?
Clinical depression or major depression is one of the most common disorders now days. This is a mood disorder that is characterized with low motivation and moods, low self esteem and a difficulty to enjoy activities that are considered fun or joyful.
The term “depression” is often used to note this medical disorder, but it can apply to many other disorders that effects our mood and involve dolefulness, and a dejected mood [ like bipolar disorder].
The symptoms of depression
Depression can present with different symptoms, depending on the person. For most people, depression disorder changes their day-to-day functioning, and usually for more than 2 weeks. The symptoms are:
Sleep schedule changes –
– Changes in appetite
– Lack of concertation
– Loss of energy
– Lack of interest in activities
– Hopelessness or guilty thoughts
– Changes in motion [less active]
– Physical pain
– Suicidal thoughts
Treating depression without medication – using Neurofeedback
In most cases, clinical depression will be treated with medication, and often, with psychotherapy involved. It is important to know that medicinal treatments have been identified as effective only in the case of acute depression. In lighter cases, it is possible that the depression can be manageable using an effective treatment plan with a psychotherapist. In more difficult cases, where there is a danger of self-harm, violence or neglect, there could be a hospitalization needed, or even shock therapy.
Treating depression with the Neurofeedback therapy has been found effective in improving the mood of those who suffer. The treatment can bring about an increase in general functioning levels, improve motivation levels, and in many cases can even make the medicinal treatment mute.
