What is a stroke?

Usually, the subjects awake on their own, but there is damage to their functioning in some sort. A major event can cause irreversible damage to the brain’s functioning, the nervous system and even death. Naturally, the previous functioning of the patient, and response time to the even may affect the severity of the damage.
What is a stroke cause from?
There are different kinds of strokes, the differ in the way the problem develops. The most common scenario, that is about 80% of the cases, is an ischemic event that is caused by a blocked blood clot that can bring about a blockage in an artery the leads to the brain. The event can be caused by a hematoma or tiny embolisms to the arteries in the brain, which is better know as a transient ischemic attack.
Nowadays, the risk factors that contribute to the development of these situations are known, such as, age, previous brain events, excess cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes, smoking, overindulging in alcohol, and so on.
What the symptoms of a stroke?
The brain damage post-event may take on many forms, according to the specific area the brain affected. These are the symptoms that may suggest a stroke/event:
Paralysis in one side of the body, or numbness in extremities –
Damaged cognitive, understanding and grasping skills –
– Damaged talking skills- can vary from not being able to speak at all and not being understood
– Loss of consciousness
– Damaged eyesight
– Sudden and severe headaches
The symptoms identified are not a small challenge, mostly since some of them can suggest to other issues. In addition, every person experiences the event differently. The clinical expression of a stroke can be a mere few seconds but can also be hours or days.
In fact, in many the cases the event will not pass unless there is treatment is administered.
How can you prevent a stroke?
As deduced from the risk factors above, maintaining a healthy, balanced and active lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk for diseases that lead to strokes. Treating accompanied diseases decreasing blood pressure or cholesterol levels, losing weight, stopping smoking and having a workout routine are highly recommended, for both general health and reducing the risk of stroke.
Treating a stroke
A stroke is an emergency medical event, that requires getting to the hospital: otherwise, there could be actual life or death danger. Many of the treatments are meant to dissolve the blood vessel that interferes with the blood flow to the brain, like medications, procedure to open the blocked blood vessels [catheterization] or blood thinners [ administered in later stages].
How can you learn to live post-event?
It is important to remember that brain stroke significantly increases the chance of reoccurring events, so it is important to stay alert. If during the treatment we can understand what the reasons for the event are, we must treat them to improve the situation.
